I have a day job and always have for years. I have worked with low income families and children, adults with mental illness, and now soon to be ex-soldiers. All rewarding at times, but frustrating at times. I put my eight or so hours in each weekday wishing there was something else to do. After high gas prices have made it very expensive to continue an 80 mile daily commute, I decided it was time to look elsewhere. One day while bored at work, I searched home based employment. Not probably the best use of my time, so sorry boss….
I discovered that there were jobs available to do at home, but most involved telemarketing or typing. These are two things that I am not interested in doing. It sounds a bit snobbish, but I have enough education that I just don’t want to do these things anymore. The pay was not great either.
I stumbled onto a bulletin board at wahm.com. It had a whole section for moms that write. The ladies (and I am sure gentlemen) here did not necessarily write novels or great works of literature, but they were making money at writing. The making money part was something that interested me, so I continued to visit their site to learn more about it. Someone mentioned Rat Race Rebellion, another website that posted jobs, to include writing jobs. I found an entry for a website needing a writer on preschool topics.
So began my second career in writing…
